Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will celebrate the closing Mass for the 2018 Arkansas Catholic Charismatic Conference at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 29 at St. Joseph Church in Conway. All are invited to attend. The conference, which begins July 27, will be held at St. Joseph Parish Center in Conway, a new location this year. In addition to Mass, this event will offer praise and worship music, prayer, workshops, a healing service, eucharistic adoration, the sacrament of reconciliation and more. Arkansas Catholic received six Catholic Press Association awards during the 2018 Catholic Media Conference hosted by the Diocese of Green Bay, Wisconsin June 15. Editor Malea Hargett got three writing awards: first place for best pro-life coverage for small weekly newspapers, honorable mention for feature writing for small weekly newspapers and shared a third-place award with associate editor Aprille Hanson for best reporting on ecumenical and interfaith issues. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor released the following statement, June 19, regarding the decision to separate immigrant children from their parents when they enter the country. "This latest action of our government in separating children from their parents shows us clearly the depths of the depravity that sets in when, year after year, we deny people their basic human rights — in this case, the right to immigrate when desperate circumstances so require. The St. Andrew School of Evangelization in the Diocese of Little Rock will host its first graduation ceremony for nearly 40 adults who have completed the first stage of formation at Catholic High School for Boys in Little Rock on Saturday, June 23. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will celebrate Mass at 4:30 p.m., which will be followed by distribution of certificates and a reception. All are invited to attend. This year, the Solemnity of Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is celebrated Friday, June 8. Though it is a solemnity, it is not a holy day of obligation. Although devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus goes back many centuries, it was not celebrated universally in the Church until 1856 when Pope Pius IX made it a solemnity.
