Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will celebrate a Mass to honor deacons celebrating 25 years of service to the Diocese of Little Rock on Tuesday, April 24 at 5 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock. All are invited to attend. Each year, Little Rock Scripture Study offers its Scholarship for Studies Preparing for Lay Ministry to support Arkansas Catholic parishioners who are pursuing an undergraduate- or graduate-level degree in fields such as theology, Scripture, sacred music, canon law, liturgy, pastoral administration, youth ministry or religious education. The scholarship is valued at $1,000. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 25. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor received approval from the Vatican to celebrate an optional memorial for Blessed Stanley Rother in the Diocese of Little Rock. All Catholic parishes in Arkansas may celebrate this feast day on July 28 unless a celebration of higher precedence falls on that day, such as a Sunday. Blessed Rother, who was beatified in Oklahoma City last September, was murdered July 28, 1981 in Guatemala. He has been recognized as the first American-born martyr. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor announced the following pastoral appointments for the Diocese of Little Rock on Friday, April 6, 2018. Effective May 31: Rev. Pius Ajunwa Iwu, relieved of his responsibilities as associate pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Fort Smith and Our Lady of the Ozarks Shrine in Winslow to become senior priest and reside at Immaculate Conception Church in Fort Smith. The celebration of Christ's resurrection continues with this feast, which recognizes that God's love and mercy endure forever and overcome any sin that separates us from him. In the 1930s, Jesus appeared to St. Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun, and directed her to promote his divine mercy worldwide. St. John Paul II canonized St. Faustina on May 1, 2000. Arkansas Catholic is launching its biannual Guardian Angel membership drive this week. Since 2010 the Diocese of Little Rock newspaper has appealed to readers to donate to several special projects, including digitizing back issues and investing in technology to reach younger Catholics. While any donation is appreciated, the membership levels are: Angel, a one-time gift of $60 or a recurring gift of $5 a month; Archangel, a one-time gift of $120 a year or a recurring gift of $10 a month; and Evangelist, a one-time gift of $300 a year or a recurring gift of $25 a month. ... Catholic parishes across the Diocese of Little Rock welcomed 544 new Catholics into the Church during Easter Vigil Masses Saturday, March 31. They participated in their parish's Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) process and fell into two groups: the elect and candidates. The elect had not been baptized or formed in the Christian faith and life. During the Easter Vigil, they were baptized, confirmed and receive their first Communion. Candidates were already baptized members of other Christian churches who wished to become Catholic. ... More

"On this holy night, the Church keeps watch, celebrating the resurrection of Christ in the sacraments and awaiting his return in glory. It is the turning point of the triduum, the Passover of the new covenant, which marks Christ's passage from death to life."
