Bishop Anthony B. Taylor announced the following pastoral appointments for the Diocese of Little Rock on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017. Effective March 7: Rev. George Sanders relieved of his responsibilities as pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Glenwood. He remains pastor of St. Mary of the Springs Church in Hot Springs; Rev. Salvador Vega-Alvarenga appointed pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Glenwood. This is in addition to his current responsibilities as pastor of St. Martin Church in Nashville. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will celebrate the diaconate ordination Mass of Nelson Jesus Rubio Villalobos (Nelson Rubio) at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Hot Springs Village. This Diocese of Little Rock seminarian will become a transitional deacon, a major step toward priestly ordination. A reception will follow in the parish hall. All are invited to attend. This Sunday, Nov. 20, we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. It recognizes that Jesus is king and savior of all people. Many of us have experienced the recent presidential election as a mixed blessing. National Vocation Awareness Week is being celebrated Nov. 6-12. This annual observance of the Catholic Church in the United States is designed to focus on vocations to the priesthood, religious life and diaconate. It is a time to encourage young people to ask themselves: "To what vocation in life is God calling me?" It is also an opportunity to bring awareness to and pray for those already in discernment of one of these vocations. Junior High Spectacular, a one-day event hosted by the Diocese of Little Rock, will be held Sunday, Nov. 6 in the McCauley Center at Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock for students in grades 6-8. This year’s theme, “He is the Way to Love,” will be presented by Oddwalk Ministries. The day will be filled with games, praise and worship, presentations by the Oddwalk Ministries, lunch and Mass.
