The annual Christmas collection is the primary source of income for the Clergy Welfare Fund, which supports retired and infirm priests of the Diocese of Little Rock. This special collection will be taken up during all Masses at Catholic parishes in Arkansas on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The diocesan Respect Life Office will host its second Hearts for Life Conference for adults at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock. This event, which will coincide with the Weekend for Life for high school youth, was created to offer participants pro-life speakers, time for prayer and inexpensive and convenient lodging prior to the eucharistic procession and Mass for Life on Jan. 19. High school youth are invited attend the 2020 Weekend for Life Jan. 18-19 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Little Rock. This overnight lock-in focuses on right-to-life issues from a youth perspective. It is held the night before the annual Mass and March for Life in Little Rock. It begins on Saturday night and includes a speaker, praise and worship music, prayer, skits and dance. The 2019 Come and See Retreat will be held Dec. 28-29 at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock. Rooted in prayer and to consist of talks, group discussion, vocational videos and personal testimonies by priests and seminarians, this retreat is designed to help participants explore more deeply a possible calling to the diocesan priesthood. The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, normally celebrated on Dec. 8, will be observed on Monday, Dec. 9 this year. Since Dec. 8 falls on the Second Sunday of Advent, the feast was moved to the following day. And even though it still is a solemnity, which is the highest level of feast day in the Church, the obligation to attend Mass did not transfer with the feast. The annual Retirement Fund for Religious collection will be held Nov. 30 - Dec. 1 in the Diocese of Little Rock. Coordinated by the National Religious Retirement Office (NRRO), the appeal benefits more than 31,000 elderly Catholic sisters, brothers and religious order priests whose religious congregations lack adequate retirement funding.
