Each fall, families and friends are invited to purchase daffodil bulbs to be planted on the graves of their loved ones in Calvary Cemetery in Little Rock. That way, by spring, the bright yellow flowers become a living memorial to all those who have been laid to rest in the historic cemetery. For a minimum donation of $20, cemetery staff will plant a group of five daffodils on the grave of your choice. (Five-bulb groups cannot be split.) In addition to being Respect Life Month, October is also dedicated to the rosary primarily because the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated Oct. 7. Two years after Pope St. Pius V endorsed praying the rosary, he asked the faithful to pray the rosary and seek the intercession of the Blessed Mother during the Battle of Lepanto, off the coast of Greece in 1571. The 2023 Taste of Faith dinner was held Saturday, Aug. 5 at the Statehouse House Convention Center in Little Rock to help pay for seminarian education in the Diocese of Little Rock. In addition to the meal, attendees were introduced to the eight new seminarians this year, musical entertainment, testimonials from seminarians Joel Brackett of Rogers and Duwan Booker of Conway and much more. The Junior High Youth Rally will be held Sunday, Nov. 12 at Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock. This year's featured speaker will be Bob Perron, executive director of JMJ Pregnancy Center in Orlando, Florida. Perron has served in various parish and diocesan youth ministry roles since 1984, and has spoken at hundreds of Catholic youth conferences and parish missions in more than 40 states and several countries. The Diocese of Little Rock Respect Life Mass will be held at noon, Sunday, Oct. 1, at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock. Father John Connell, vicar general, will be the principal celebrant and homilist.
