The St. Andrew School of Evangelization in the Diocese of Little Rock will host its first graduation ceremony for nearly 40 adults who have completed the first stage of formation at Catholic High School for Boys in Little Rock on Saturday, June 23. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will celebrate Mass at 4:30 p.m., which will be followed by distribution of certificates and a reception. All are invited to attend. The diocesan Respect Life Office is hosting its first Leaders for Life Youth Conference for high school youth July 13-14 at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock. The goal is to educate and empower young Catholics to consider what it means to develop a consistent ethic of life and explore how they can build a culture of life in their own families, parishes, schools and communities. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor is celebrating his 10th anniversary as shepherd of the Diocese of Little Rock, June 5, while on retreat with priests at Subiaco Abbey. A special Mass of thanksgiving, to celebrate all jubilarian priests serving in Arkansas, will include the bishop's anniversary on June 26. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will ordain eight men to the priesthood in May and June. This is the largest ordination class for the Diocese of Little Rock in more than 60 years. The first ordination will be celebrated Saturday, May 26 for the following seminarians: Deacons Tuyen Do; Patrick Friend; Jeff Hebert; and Keith Higginbotham. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will celebrate the diaconate ordination Mass of Jon Miskin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 23 at Christ the King Church in Little Rock. Being ordained a transitional deacon is a major step toward priestly ordination. A reception will follow the Mass. All are invited to attend. The diocesan Hispanic Ministry Office is sponsoring a training program to lead parish youth ministry through its Curso de Formacion en Pastoral Juvenil (CPJ). This eight-course training program, presented in Spanish, is certificated by the Institute for Faith and Life. It is open to youth and single young adults ages 16 and older and will be offered at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock from July to October and at St. Augustine Church in Dardanelle from August to November. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor received approval from the Vatican to celebrate an optional memorial for Blessed Stanley Rother in the Diocese of Little Rock. All Catholic parishes in Arkansas may celebrate this feast day on July 28 unless a celebration of higher precedence falls on that day, such as a Sunday. Blessed Rother, who was beatified in Oklahoma City last September, was murdered July 28, 1981 in Guatemala. He has been recognized as the first American-born martyr.
