Chrism and Priest Jubilarian Mass

Add to My Calendar 2020-08-10 2020-08-10 11 Chrism and Priest Jubilarian Mass Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will celebrate this Mass at 5:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock. The Chrism Mass is normally held on the Monday of Holy Week, but it was rescheduled because public Masses were not being held at that time because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Priest Jubilarian Mass is normally held in June. This event honors priests who are celebrating special anniversaries of priestly service in the Diocese of Little Rock. This year, these Masses are being combined and moved to August. Jubilarians to be honored and celebrating 25 years are: Fathers Greg Luyet, Jerome Early, OCD, Siprianus Ola Rotok, SVD, and Amal Raju Punganoor Lourduswamy.  Abbot Leonard Wangler, OSB, is celebrating 50 years and Msgr. Gaston Hebert is celebrating 60 years of priesthood. A dinner will be served after the Mass in McDonald Hall. For the Chrism Mass, priests serving across the diocese concelebrate this Mass, during which they also renew their commitment to priestly service. Oils to be used statewide in the coming year are presented for the bishop's blessing. These include the oil for the sick, used in anointing the sick; the oil for catechumens, used during baptism; and the oil for the sacred chrism, which is the primary anointing oil. It is used in the sacraments of initiation and holy orders as well as special acts of dedication. The word "chrism" means "consecrated oil."
