Bishop Anthony B. Taylor kicks off the annual Catholic Arkansas Sharing Appeal (CASA) Feb. 7-8 in parishes across the Diocese of Little Rock with a recorded homily to be played during all Masses (in video or audio format). Pledge envelopes are also handed out asking parishioners to meet this year's $2 million goal. This year's theme is "Be Salt. Be Light."
"CASA assists with those things that go beyond the capacity of our individual parishes: vocations, Catholic charities, our faith formation programs, Catholic schools, Hispanic ministry, our deacon formation program, our tribunal and, of course, it helps fund our diocesan offices," the bishop explained in his homily. "Our next major project to be funded out of CASA will be the complete remodeling of Byrne Hall — the last of the original buildings on the diocese’s main campus that needs to be remodeled to fit current needs," Bishop Taylor added. "Any of you who have been inside that building in its current state know how badly this 110-year-old building is in need of a drastic overhaul."
"This is one way in which you can be the salt of the earth and the light of the world in Arkansas today. Please join me in making not only CASA but indeed this entire year a shared blessing for everyone," he concluded. | Read, watch or listen to his homily.
Catholic Arkansas Sharing Appeal (CASA) began in 1990 to provide critical funding for the pastoral, educational and social needs of the Diocese of Little Rock. Through the generosity of Catholics our diocese, we have been able to help the poor, developing parishes and our Catholic schools to continue their ministries in promoting the teachings of Jesus. Donations have also helped to educate deacons, lay ministers and seminarians as well as make all ministries of the diocese a success.
