Worldwide Marriage Encounter (WWME) will be held from 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17 at Coury House Retreat Center on the grounds of Subiaco Abbey. It is designed to help married couples spend time together, away from the distractions and tensions of everyday life, where they can focus on each other and their relationship and reconnect privately. There is no group discussion.
The application fee is $200 per couple with an additional donation requested during the weekend to cover costs. Apply online, email Ben or Leah Brewer at apply@arkansaswwme.org or call them at (501) 733-1235. The application deadline is Sept. 16. This event is sponsored by the Family Life Office in the Diocese of Little Rock.
Three couples and a priest lead participants through a program where they share experiences and offer tools to improve communication. WWME is held twice a year in Arkansas in February and September. Weekends are also available in Spanish. Married couples with good marriages are encouraged to apply. For more information, visit the FAQ. If you are struggling in your marriage, try Retrouvaille instead.
Virtual WWME weekends are also an option. They follow the same schedule but are attended from home, using video conference software. To find a complete schedule, visit the main WWME website.
Established in 1968, WWME is still the most popular marriage enrichment program in the world, annually presenting 2,000 experiences in about 100 countries. In North America, more than 1,600 couples and priests (known as “presenting teams”) hold marriage encounter experiences in English, Spanish, French and Korean. WWME’s support groups exist in nearly every diocese of the U.S. and Canada. For more information, contact Elizabeth Reha, family life director, at (501) 664-0340, ext. 373.
