Diocesan Hermits

Updated March 26, 2024

Canon 603 defines the eremitical life making hermits accountable to the local bishop, who receives their public vows and rule which is individual to each hermit as given by the Holy Spirit. Each hermit is called to live a life of prayer for the salvation of the world. Each has to find their way according to the circumstances in which God places them. Hermits provide for practical needs as there is no religious order to depend on. Hermits are called to the desert to renew the life of the Church. For more information, visit the Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 920-21.
