Deacon Candidate — Class of 2022

Scott A. Rennels Sr., Blessed Sacrament, Jonesboro

Why do you want to be a deacon?

Discerning God’s will takes time and is not always an easy task. We must discern, along with the needs of the Church, what God’s will is for each of us. The Diocese of Little Rock discernment period followed by my year as an aspirant has allowed me to be more open to the Holy Spirit. My years of active service in various parish ministries were fulfilling but I continued to feel God calling me to a more active role to evangelize, to be a servant and to proclaim the Gospel. Obedience requires humility, which is primary in the role of any ordained ministry. I feel very strongly that the diaconate “in persona Christi servi” is the vocation that God desires for me. I look forward to the continuing formation process in the areas of spiritual, human, pastoral and intellectual growth. Journeying through the formation process with like-minded discerners is equally enjoyable. Blessings!
