Four men to be ordained in May and July
The ordination Mass for Deacons Mauricio Carrasco of Springdale, Juan de Dios Manjarrez of Fort Smith and Alejandro Puello of Paragould will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 26 at Christ the King Church in Little Rock. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will be the celebrant. A reception will follow in the Family Life Center. Eucharistic adoration and prayers for the newly ordained will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, May 25 at Christ the King. For his first liturgy, Carrasco will celebrate a bilingual Mass at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 27 at St. Raphael Church in Springdale. Puello will celebrate his first Mass in English at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, May 27. Manjarrez will celebrate Mass in English at 10 a.m. and Mass in Spanish at 2 p.m. May 27 at Immaculate Conception Church in Little Rock. Receptions will be held following the Masses.
Deacon Andrew Hart, who is attending the North American College in Rome and a member of Christ the King Church in Little Rock, will be ordained at noon, Saturday, July 21 at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock.
Taste of Faith events to be held in June and August
The Taste of Faith seminarian fundraising dinners will be held June 15, 2012, at Immaculate Conception in Fort Smith and Aug. 11 at Embassy Suites in Little Rock. All proceeds support seminarian education. For more information, contact Maria Izquierdo at (501) 664-0340, ext. 378.
Come and See event set for December
The Vocations Office will host a Come and See Discernment Retreat for single Catholic men Dec. 29-30, 2012, at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock. For more information, contact Maria Izquierdo at (501) 664-0340, ext. 378.
Discernment Retreat for women to be in January
The annual Women's Religious Vocation Discernment Retreat will be held Jan. 11-12, 2013, at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock. Women from various religious orders in the state will be present to help participants discern their call. Women 16 to 40 years old also are invited to join a discernment group around the state. Seminarians installed as acolytes, lector
Diocesan seminarians Robert Cigainero and Juan Guido were installed as acolytes Feb. 14 during a ceremony at St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana. Cigainero is a member of St. Edward Church in Texarkana and Guido is a member of St. Edward Church in Little Rock. Acolytes assist a deacon or priest during liturgies. He may distribute Communion as an auxiliary minister and may be entrusted with the public veneration of the Blessed Sacrament. These men are expected to be ordained priests in 2014. On the same day, the ministry of lector was conferred on seminarian Martin Siebold. He is a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in North Little Rock. The ministry of lector is conferred upon those who prepare and proclaim the readings at Mass and other liturgical celebrations. A lector also may recite psalms between the readings and present the intentions for the general intercessions.
Holy hour for vocations open to all on Fridays
The Diocese of Little Rock House of Formation is now hosting a holy hour to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life every Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Fletcher Hall chapel at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock. Individuals or groups are invited to join discerners, seminarians and resident priests in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. Adorers are also welcome to leave prayer intentions. The house of formation is temporarily located in Fletcher Hall. Construction is expected to be completed this fall on a new house of formation on the campus of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Little Rock.
