Important Notice
The hurricane recovery program will end March 31, 2008. New clients will ordinarily not be accepted after January 31, 2008. We will no longer be providing assistance to current clients after February 29, 2008.
If you are receiving case management from Catholic Charities and are on FEMA rental assistance, it is CRITICAL that you contact us so we may assist you with the FEMA rental assistance transition to the Disaster Housing Assistance Program (DHAP) with HUD.
An estimated 25,000 evacuees of Hurricanes Katrina & Rita still find refuge in Arkansas. Catholic Charities of Arkansas is fulfilling its usual post-disaster role by offering long-term recovery programs around the state.
Catholic Charities is now accomplishing this through regional case managers equipped to help evacuees with reintegration, reunification and relocation.
Case managers assist evacuees in making and following a plan for their long-term recovery. This may include help with navigating the FEMA system, or finding needed services.
Assistance Provided
Since September 2005, Catholic Charities has been connecting evacuees of Hurricanes Katrina & Rita with trained case managers who accompany them on their journey back to the stability they had before the hurricanes.
Long-term assistance from Catholic Charities has included: case management to help with resettlement in Arkansas or in reuniting with family and friends; issues related to FEMA applications, employment, housing, utilities, prescription drugs, food and emotional support; referrals for medical care and mental health services and government agencies. Spanish, Laotian and Thai translators are available.
