Calligraphy course St. Scholastica Retreat Center, Fort Smith
Starts May 1 Sister Magdalen Stanton, OSB, will offer “Calligraphy Class: Copperplate” on five consecutive Thursdays in May. Register for afternoon (2-3:30 p.m.) or evening (6-7:30 p.m.) courses. The course fee is $40 plus $10 for supplies.

Rexfest auction, fun run and carnival Christ the King Church, Little Rock
Treasure Island is the theme for this year’s Rexfest The weekend begins Friday, May 2 with a silent and live auction in the school gym. The adults-only event begins at 6 p.m. On Saturday, May 3 a 5K and one-mile family run/walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Family Life Center. After the 5:30 p.m. Mass hamburgers and hot dogs will be served while The Intruders play music. The carnival with rides, games and food will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, May 4.

Parish Dinner St. Edward Church, Little Rock
Begins after 4 p.m. Mass BBQ and all the fixings will be served in the cafeteria. After dinner the adults will play bingo for prizes and the kids will enjoy a movie in the gym. Adult tickets are $15 and include dinner, 10 games of bingo, and two tickets that can be exchanged for beer or soda. Child tickets (Ages 6-18) are $7.50 and include dinner, one ticket that can be exchanged for a soda, a movie and a goodie bag. Children under 6 are free.

Southern Scholastic Open Chess Tournament St. Joseph Family Activity Center, Conway
10 a.m. Open to students in K-12. Each child plays at least five games. Individual and team competition. The top three players and top three teams in each division will win trophies. $20 per player in advance or $25 day of tournament.
